Stephen grew up in a tiny, sequestered town in South Texas. He credits his passion for film to the isolation he faced growing up in the middle of nowhere with little to do except watch movies and wander off with his own imagination. Belyeu went on to receive his Bachelors Degree in Film from Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, Belyeu moved to Austin to further pursue his interests in film. While working on his own film projects, Belyeu began teaching filmmaking to youth through various organizations in the Austin area, including the City of Austin Parks and Recreation, Austin School of Film, and the Austin Film Society. Now, Belyeu is an award winning writer/director. His debut feature film, “Dig,” competed in the 2010 Austin Film Festival and took home the Narrative Feature Audience Award. In 2011, Belyeu became involved with AFF as the Film Competition Programmer and Director of Youth Education. In 2012, he stepped down to pursue his next feature scheduled for production in winter 2014.
